The project which is co-financed by the IFAD, the Federal Government of Nigeria, The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and the Rivers State Government is aimed at building the capacity of agripreneurs, enhancing incubatees’ income and ensuring food security in Rivers State and the Niger Delta States where the programme is being implemented. REFLECTING ON A SUCCESSFUL METHANE ABATEMENT PROJECT, STAKEHOLDERS CALL FOR GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

By Helen Chimezie Reflecting on a successful methane abatement project, the Environmental Centre for Oil Spills and Gas Flaring (ECOSGF) convened partners and stakeholders to a one-day close out meeting on methane abatement in Nigeria, with special focus on anthropogenic sources. The close-out event which held in Port Harcourt, on January 24, 2025, marked the end of a one-year initiative aimed at raising awareness among stakeholders on the adverse effects of methane and the economic side of it. In his opening remarks Rev. Fr. Edward Obi, the National Coordinator of ECOSGF, who joined the meeting virtually, enjoined participants to articulate the various concerns of experiences that were garnered during the field work; and to also pursue it in an organized and systematic way, so that resources for a possible next lap of the programme will be developed. RIVERS LG POLL: APP WINS 22 OUT OF 23 CHAIRMANSHIP POSITIONS

  By Dr Helen Chimezie The Action People's Party (APP) has won 22 chairmanship positions out of 23 in the just-concluded Local Government Election in Rivers State. The Chief Election Officer of the  Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Adolphus Enebeli declared the results on Saturday, October 5, 2024, in Port Harcourt, while suspending the declaration of results for Etche Local Government Area (LGA) because the collation is ongoing. The electoral umpire also said that announcement for the 319 councillorship seats will be announced alongside that of the Etche Chairmanship position when collations are concluded. He described the election as free, fair, and credible, despite all odds, while  saluting the patriotism of the residents who turned out to vote.
