NCDMB STRENGTHENS TIES WITH MEDIA, CSOS, AND YOUTHS IN PORT HARCOURT ENGAGEMENT
By Dr Helen Chimezie
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with media practitioners, civil society organizations, and youth groups in the Niger Delta.
At a one-day stakeholders’ engagement held on Thursday, 28th August in Port Harcourt, the Board, through its Corporate Communications Division, showcased its mandate, milestones, and strategic initiatives aimed at driving Nigeria’s local content agenda.
In his remarks, the NCDMB General Manager, Corporate Communications, Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, underscored the central role of the media in shaping public perception of the Board’s activities. He emphasized that the NCDMB is not an interventionist agency nor a Niger Delta-focused body, but a pan-Nigerian agency mandated to develop local content across the country.
“The media is critical to what we do. You have continually helped us project our mandate, but we urge you to also serve as gatekeepers by correcting inaccuracies about the Board and setting the right agenda for Nigeria content,” Dr. Ezeobi said.
He disclosed that Nigerian content compliance currently stands at 56 percent, with the Board committed to continually building the capacity of the media to sustain this progress.
Also speaking, the Director of Corporate Services, Dr. Abdulamalik Halilu, delivered a presentation on NCDMB’s mandate and achievements. He explained that the Board has expanded its efforts beyond revenue generation to driving in-country value addition.
According to him, the Board’s achievements cut across human capital development, financial interventions, manufacturing initiatives, and service sector growth.
“Our work revolves around our mandate, and local content today is not just about revenue, but about value creation within the country and across Africa,” Dr. Halilu stated.
Reacting on behalf of participants, a media professional, Dr. Ruth Udoka, commended NCDMB for the initiative, describing the session as “revealing, insightful, and impactful.” She noted that the engagement provided a clearer understanding of the Board’s mandate and achievements.
The Board disclosed that such engagements will now be held more frequently to strengthen partnerships with critical stakeholders in advancing Nigeria’s local content drive.
