COURT NULLIFIES ALL APC PRIMARIES IN RIVERS STATE

By Dr. Helen Chimezie

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has on Tuesday nullified all the primary elections conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State over the unlawful exclusion of some members of the party as delegates to the primaries.

George Orlu, Henry Wali, and six others who filed the case claimed to have purchased nomination forms and were excluded from the process. They, therefore, approached the court requesting that the primaries of APC in the State be nullified.

In his judgement, Justice E.A. Obile held that the aggrieved persons were shut out of the primaries unlawfully, adding that the process amounted to nullity. He, therefore ruled that all those elected from the primary elections stand nullified and should not be recognized as candidates.

In reaction to the judgement, the APC leadership in the State has urged all party faithfuls not to panic as the judgement will be appealed upon immediately.
