FELIX OBUAH LOSES ₦2 BILLION TO FLOOD
By Dr. Helen Chimezie
Former chairman of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State, Felix Amaechi Obuah has had more
than a fair share of the ravaging global climate change, having lost over N2
billion after his residence at his hometown, Omoku, in Rivers State was taken
over by flood last week.
Other properties of Obuah that were submerged
are his massive farmland, Krisdera Hotel and Resorts, and Ogba Comprehensive
School, all located in the Omoku community of Rivers State.
He lamented: “My village has been completely
sacked by the flood. My people are now homeless. These are people blessed with
huge natural resources and deserve to enjoy the best things of life. But life has
turned into a nightmare for them.
“As we speak, I am yet to complete collating all
my properties destroyed by the flood, but, so far, I have lost over N2 billion
worth of properties at the last count. We
are appealing to the Federal Government to come to our aid. This is our place
of birth and we have no other place to go. This is why I established all my
business concerns in my village.
“I could have built my hotel and school in any
major city in Nigeria or any other part of the world, which would have fetched
me more money. But I chose to invest in my community in order to put Omoku on
the world map.
“I wish other wealthy Nigerians can buy into my
vision and develop their respective community, thereby, creating jobs for the
jobless youths. That would reduce restiveness and other vices in our society
today.
“We have heard stories about the government’s
assistance to states and communities that have flood challenges and other
natural disasters. Omoku is like a cash cow to Nigeria, being a huge gas host community.
We deserve a better life.”
