YOUTHS LEAD THE STATISTICS OF NEWLY REGISTERED VOTERS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says young people between the ages of 18-34 years account for 76.5 percent of newly registered voters in terms of demographic distribution.
This was revealed on Wednesday by the chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu at the Commission's 2022 third quarterly meeting with political parties held at the INEC conference room in Abuja.
Speaking during the event, the INEC chairman said that 9,518,188 new voters have been added to the existing register of 84,004,084 voters and that the preliminary registered of voters in Nigeria now stands at 93,522,272.
“In terms of demographic distribution, 7.2 million new voters, or 76.5% are young people between 18-34 years while there is a slightly higher number of female (4.8 million or 50.82%) than male (4.6 million or 49.18%) voters." He said.
He further revealed that the soft copy giving details of the distribution of the new voters has already been uploaded on the commission's website and social media platforms.
He, however, divulge that the new total figure may still
change in the coming days after the register is subjected to public scrutiny at
the ward and local government levels across the country in accordance with the
provisions of the Electoral Act.
