AHOADA CULT CLASH: POLICE CONFIRMS DEATH OF 5 PERSONS

The Rivers State police command has confirmed the death of 5 persons during a supremacy battle between two rival cult groups - Icelanders and Greenlanders at Abuja housing estate, Ahoada main town, in Ahoada East Local Government area of Rivers State.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko said the five suspected cultists that were reportedly killed are Chukwujeku Kingsley aged 36years; Chibuike ThankGod aged 23years, and three others who are yet to be identified.

The spokesperson stated that the Commissioner of Police has ordered investigations into the incident, as tactical patrol team have been mobilized to the area to restore normalcy.

It was gathered that gunmen suspected to be cultists invaded a housing estate in Ahoada on Saturday night (5th November 2022), in search of rival cult members. 

A shoot-out ensued between the invaders suspected to be members of Greenland cult group and their rivals, Iceland cult group, which resulted to the death of about eight persons, and a woman sustaining gunshot injury, with corpses of the deceased littered around the estate as at Sunday morning.

A resident of the community disclosed that residents scampered for safety and many others remained in doors for fear of being caught by stray bullet.

It was further disclosed that there was no security presence for over two hours the shooting lasted. 

Iceland and Greenland cult groups have been involved in supremacy and territorial control battle in the past months with over twelve persons reported dead.
